Dresden International School was founded in 1996 by government and community leaders from the city of Dresden and the state of Saxony. The school meets the needs of the growing expatriate community active in the fields of business and commerce, scientific and medical research, media and the arts and internationally-minded families resident in Dresden. It is a key factor in the promotion of the economic and cultural development of the Dresden region.
DIS is a member of the European Council of International Schools and is an International Baccalaureate World School. It is a charitable limited liability company with the current status of an Ersatzschule (Grade 1-4) and Ergänzungsschule (Grade 5-12).
DIS has grown steady since its foundation from 13 students to over 500 from 50 different nationalities. They are being taught in two different campuses, the preschool and the school campus. At the school campus our Primary (Kindergarten and Grade 1-5) and Secondary School (Grade 6- 12) is housed.
The Secondary School chemistry lab was completed with the move into the new school campus in December 2007. For the equipment, elements from the previous school building were partially taken over and installed. After 15 years, the furniture and workstations for the students no longer meet modern standards
State of the art labs would allow us to make a significant difference to our important educational goal, providing our students with the facilities that advance learning and enquiry. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education puts an emphasis on preparing future generations to be successful in their careers.
"Modern science develops through collaboration, i.e. sharing knowledge, skills, and working via a common global protocol and understanding. It is our responsibility as science educators to reinforce this and use opportunities in the classroom to further understanding of how real science works. The only way for us to do that effectively is to model it: The new design in Laboratory A1.7 is centered around groupwork and making the most of online tools for science learning and will be an enormous asset, enablingg us to be more creative in our lessonplanning, allowing students to collaborate authentically and access real-world modern technology. We greatly appreciate the focus on improving the science facilities at DIS."
Andrew Bullough - Science teacher & Head of Department
After 15 years of using the existing lab, the school plans to refurbish thechemistry lab for the school year 2023-24, with the first work being done as early as summer 2023. A modern lab for Grades 6-12 will help the school achieve its educational goals and promote learning and research.
New furniture - New electrical and gas installations - Equipment - medienBuddy (mobile workstations)
We need financial support for the purchase of the so-called medienBuddies, work tables and chairs.
The medienBuddies with electricity and gas connection will allow mobile and modern learning, quick change of location in the room, numerous combination possibilities, and will make it easier for students to collaborate.
DIS >> 1st school with medienBuddies (world premiere March 2023)
Refurbishment Progress – Chemistry Lab
